Indianapolis, Indiana – Scorching heat and stormy skies will challenge Hoosiers across central Indiana Thursday as the state faces dangerous summer weather conditions. Heat indices could soar between 100 to 107°F during the day, with little relief expected by nightfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for Marion County and more than 30 surrounding counties. Friday’s high in Indianapolis is expected to reach 93°F, with gusts up to 18 mph and humidity pushing the heat index to triple digits.
Stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces, especially for outdoor workers.
Storm chances increase by late Friday, with isolated thunderstorms possible between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday night could bring heavy rainfall and localized flooding, especially near Bloomington, Lafayette, and along the I-70 corridor. Lightning and strong wind gusts are additional hazards.
Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will bring slightly cooler temps in the upper 80s but continued storm chances both days, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Showers could linger into Monday before drier weather returns by Tuesday and Wednesday.
