Fort Wayne, Ind. – Damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours could impact parts of northern and central Indiana Thursday afternoon as isolated severe thunderstorms develop, mainly along and south of U.S. Route 24.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the greatest threat for severe weather will arrive Thursday between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with a marginal to slight risk for damaging winds in cities like Marion, Kokomo, and Fort Wayne. Confidence in widespread severe weather remains low, but a few embedded strong storms are possible. Showers are likely overnight tonight into Thursday morning, though severe impacts are not expected during that period.

The primary concern Thursday will be isolated wind gusts strong enough to cause tree damage or power outages, especially in southern portions of the region. Localized heavy rainfall could also lead to brief flooding on roadways, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Drivers along I-69 and U.S. 24 should monitor conditions and avoid travel during storm activity if possible. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay weather-aware throughout the day.

Storm chances diminish by Thursday night, but additional updates or advisories may be issued if conditions evolve.
