Indianapolis, IN – Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating multiple “swatting” incidents that have allegedly targeted members of the Indiana General Assembly, according to a Friday afternoon post from the ISP Jasper District.

Swatting is when someone falsely reports an emergency — such as an active shooter or hostage situation — to trigger a heavy law enforcement response. ISP officials say the recent calls involved “false emergencies” intended to prompt large-scale police deployments to lawmakers’ homes or offices.

According to police, the incidents are not only dangerous to the individuals targeted but also put responding officers and the public at risk. “Our goal is to seek criminal prosecution against those involved, to the fullest extent allowed by law,” the ISP statement said.

Authorities are coordinating with local, county, and federal agencies to track down those responsible for what they described as “reckless, careless, and illegal activities.”

Investigators urge anyone with information to contact the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center at iifc@iifc.in.gov.
