Indianapolis, IN – Multiple Indiana state parks will temporarily close this weekend, Dec. 2-3, for controlled deer management hunts. These closures aim to manage wildlife populations and protect local ecosystems.
Participating parks include Brown County, Chain O’Lakes, Charlestown, and McCormick’s Creek, among others. Notably, Fort Harrison, Raccoon State Recreation Area, and Trine State Recreation Area will permit archery-only hunting.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), controlled hunts ensure healthy deer populations and prevent overbrowsing. Hunters were selected through a computerized draw earlier this fall and must hold valid Indiana hunting licenses.
Parks will reopen to the public on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Visitors are advised to confirm park hours and activities before traveling.
