Indianapolis, IN – A widespread winter storm delivered significant snowfall across central Indiana, with many communities picking up between 4.5 and 6.5 inches, according to updated totals released Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, snowfall amounts from the December 13 storm varied sharply across the region. The heaviest snow fell across much of central Indiana, while far southwestern areas saw totals under 2 inches.

The highest reported snowfall total was 6.9 inches near Lebanon in Boone County, making it the top accumulation from the storm. Several other locations recorded totals near or above 5 inches, including Shelbyville (5.9″), Noblesville (5.4″), Greencastle (5.0″), Terre Haute (5.2″), and Rushville (5.4″).

In the Indianapolis metro area, the official snowfall total at Indianapolis International Airport measured 5.4 inches, placing the city squarely within the storm’s heaviest band. Surrounding communities such as Danville (4.6″), Martinsville (5.1″), and Crawfordsville (4.7″) also saw substantial accumulation.

Snowfall amounts dropped off farther south and southwest, with Bloomfield reporting around 2 inches, Bedford near 1.2 inches, and Vincennes receiving just 0.2 inches.

The storm caused hazardous travel conditions Saturday due to accumulating snow and falling temperatures. While plowing operations have improved conditions, snowpack and refreezing may continue to cause slick spots, especially on secondary roads and overnight.

Residents are encouraged to remain cautious as colder air settles in and untreated surfaces remain icy.
