Indianapolis, Ind. – Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected across Indiana today, with the highest threat for damaging winds and localized flooding centered south of I-70 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the first wave of storms is expected between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a second round likely from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Areas including Bloomington, Seymour, and Columbus are under a Level 1 severe risk, where isolated damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours are possible.

Drivers along I-65 and I-74 should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding on roads. Residents in southern Indiana—particularly near Vincennes, Jasper, and Greensburg—could experience brief power outages if wind gusts down trees or utility lines. Rainfall totals may also cause minor flooding in low-lying areas and urban drainage systems.

Officials urge Hoosiers to secure loose outdoor items, check weather alerts frequently, and avoid flooded roads. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains key as conditions could worsen rapidly during peak commute hours.

Storm activity is expected to taper off tonight, but additional alerts could be issued if evening storms strengthen.
