Indianapolis, IN – Severe thunderstorms, some potentially severe, will begin impacting Indiana late this afternoon and continue into the evening.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, periods of showers and thunderstorms will impact areas across the state from this morning through early afternoon. However, the greatest concern comes later in the day when a line of severe thunderstorms is expected to develop after 3 p.m., bringing with it damaging wind gusts, hail, and the potential for tornadoes.
The severe weather threat is expected to peak between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. EDT, with wind speeds possibly reaching up to 75 mph. Locations along and south of U.S. Route 24 in Indiana and into northwest Ohio are at the greatest risk. Storms are expected to produce hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter, with golf ball-sized hail possible in some areas.
Residents are urged to stay alert for updates and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. The National Weather Service advises taking multiple precautions, including having a plan to receive alerts and staying indoors when storms approach.
