Fort Wayne, Ind. – Severe thunderstorms could sweep across northern Indiana beginning at noon Tuesday, threatening damaging winds and large hail from South Bend to Fort Wayne and Kokomo through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, storms are most likely between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday, with a marginal to slight risk (levels 1–2 out of 5) for severe weather. Areas in the slight risk zone—stretching from South Bend and Goshen to Warsaw, Fort Wayne, and the Indiana-Ohio border—face the highest chances for strong gusts and hail. Lighter showers and gusty winds may reach northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan earlier in the morning.

Residents in affected cities, including Elkhart, Plymouth, and Huntington, should prepare for sudden weather changes and secure outdoor items. Drivers are urged to stay alert for rapidly deteriorating conditions, especially along highways like US-30 and I-69. Charge devices and monitor NOAA weather radio or local alerts in case warnings are upgraded.

Storms may weaken by late evening, but additional advisories could be issued if the front slows or intensifies. Warnings remain in effect for northern Indiana through Tuesday night.
