Indianapolis, Ind. – Damaging winds and scattered severe thunderstorms could sweep across Indiana Tuesday afternoon into the evening, with tornadoes not entirely off the table. The greatest threat spans much of central and southern Indiana, including areas around Terre Haute, Bloomington, and Indianapolis.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the state is under a Level 2 (Slight) risk for severe weather, with storms expected to develop after noon and intensify into the evening. Hazards include 60+ mph wind gusts, isolated tornadoes, localized flash flooding, and large hail.
Cities like Vincennes, Jasper, and Columbus are within the highest local threat area. While storm cells will likely be scattered, any strong system could quickly become dangerous. Interstate 70 and U.S. 41 travelers should be prepared for sudden downpours and poor visibility.
Residents are urged to charge devices in case of power outages and secure outdoor items. If under a warning, shelter indoors away from windows and avoid unnecessary travel.
Storms may linger through the early nighttime hours before tapering off. Additional watches or warnings could be issued as conditions evolve—Hoosiers should monitor updates through the evening.
