Logansport, IN – Drivers faced major traffic disruptions Thursday after a semi-truck rollover closed U.S. 35 south of U.S. 24 near the Dunkirk Exchange for more than eight hours.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 1:06 p.m. on September 25, 2025. Deputies and multiple emergency agencies responded after a 2024 Freightliner semi-tractor hauling a 1997 cargo tanker tipped onto its side while exiting the U.S. 24 eastbound ramp onto southbound U.S. 35.
Deputies say the tanker, filled with about 5,000 gallons of liquid manure, leaked most of its cargo. The spill covered three of the four lanes of U.S. 35, requiring private contractors to assist in cleanup.
The driver, identified as 58-year-old Roberto Jimenez Peralta of Wolcott, Indiana, had to be extricated from the cab. He was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, investigators said.
Traffic was detoured for approximately eight and a half hours as crews worked to remove the spilled material and clear the roadway.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact their office at 574-753-7800.
