Valparaiso, IN – A portion of U.S. 6 in Porter County will shut down for approximately one week beginning Monday as crews begin preventative maintenance work on a CSX railroad bridge.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Northwest, the closure will affect U.S. 6 between Mander Road and County Road 350 East starting on or after Monday, June 23. The project involves a bridge deck overlay to improve long-term durability and safety.

An official detour will be posted and will direct drivers to use State Road 49 and State Road 2 to navigate around the construction zone. Motorists traveling between Valparaiso and Westville should expect delays and plan alternate routes.

INDOT advises travelers to exercise caution in the area and remain alert for signage indicating changes to traffic patterns during the construction window.

This closure is part of INDOT’s ongoing efforts to extend the life of critical infrastructure and maintain road safety throughout Northwest Indiana.
