Indiana Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Peru

Peru, IN – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday evening on Wabash Road, east of Paw Paw Pike.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police and Miami County deputies responded to the crash at approximately 5:00 p.m. A preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by James Sturgill, 53, of Wabash, Indiana, struck Beverly Bowen, 80, of Peru.

Bowen was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving measures. Officials confirmed her family has been notified. Sturgill did not sustain any injuries.

Investigators reported that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

Authorities emphasized the investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time. The crash prompted a response from multiple agencies, including the Peru Fire Department, Duke’s EMS, and the Miami County EMA.

Local authorities remind drivers to remain vigilant, particularly in high-traffic or low-visibility areas.
