Indiana, PA – Roads across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia could turn snow-covered after 9 p.m. Tuesday, setting up a slow and hazardous Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 9 p.m. this evening until 1 p.m. Wednesday for portions of northwest, southwest and western Pennsylvania and parts of northern West Virginia. Total snowfall between 3 and 7 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph.
Communities including Oil City, Franklin, Clarion, Brookville, Punxsutawney, Indiana, Ligonier and Ohiopyle in Pennsylvania, along with Terra Alta, Davis, Thomas and Canaan Valley in West Virginia, will see accumulating snow overnight. Higher elevations of Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties face the greatest totals. Gusty winds may create blowing snow, reducing visibility on exposed roads and ridgelines.
PennDOT and the West Virginia Division of Highways may treat major routes, but secondary roads could remain slick into late morning. Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce speed and keep headlights on during heavier bursts of snow.
Snow will taper late Wednesday morning, but slick spots may linger through early afternoon. Additional updates are possible if snowfall rates increase overnight.
