Northern Indiana and Northwest Ohio – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio as accumulating snow may create hazardous travel conditions from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, snowfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are possible across affected areas, including Allen, Cass, Miami, Wabash, Huntington, and Fulton counties in Indiana, as well as Defiance, Henry, and Paulding counties in Ohio.
Light snow is expected to develop by Saturday evening, gradually increasing in coverage and intensity overnight. Forecasters say the greatest impacts are expected Sunday afternoon into early Sunday evening, when snowfall rates may be highest and accumulations increase most rapidly.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate during this period, with bridges and overpasses becoming slick first. Untreated roads may quickly become hazardous, particularly during periods of steadier snowfall.
Officials urge residents to monitor forecast updates in case the watch is upgraded to a warning. Travel may need to be delayed, especially during peak snowfall Sunday afternoon. Those who must travel are advised to drive with extreme caution and carry a winter storm kit.
Cold conditions will also increase the risk of frostbite or hypothermia for anyone outdoors for extended periods. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and limit exposure as conditions worsen.
