Indiana — Wind pushes loose snow across open fields outside Fort Wayne this morning as gray clouds thicken over northern Indiana. Flurries drift across highways while gusty winds tug at traffic signs and bare tree branches.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, snow showers will increase through the afternoon, especially after about 3 p.m. across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Breezy southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will push snow across roadways. These bursts could briefly reduce visibility during heavier snow bands.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 69, US-30, and US-24 should expect rapidly changing road conditions later today. Wet pavement may quickly turn slushy during stronger snow showers. Visibility could drop for several minutes as lake-effect snow develops downwind of Lake Michigan.

Temperatures will hover in the mid-30s early, then gradually fall toward around 29 degrees by late afternoon. As colder air moves in, untreated roads and bridges could become slick. The risk increases during the evening commute as snow showers continue.

Snow may taper overnight, but a 50 percent chance of additional snow showers remains into the early morning hours. Overnight lows drop near 17 degrees, allowing leftover moisture to freeze. Watch for patchy black ice during early travel Tuesday.

Tuesday brings a colder but quieter day with highs near 27 degrees and partial sunshine returning. Another weak disturbance could bring isolated snow showers late Tuesday night into Wednesday, though accumulation appears limited.

By Thursday, warmer air begins pushing north across the Midwest. Temperatures climb into the mid-50s, signaling the first hints of early spring returning to northern Indiana.
