Cincinnati, Ohio – Drivers across Indiana, Ohio, and western Pennsylvania are waking up to widespread dense fog Friday morning, creating dangerous travel conditions and cutting visibility to a quarter mile or less. The thick fog is expected to linger through 10 a.m., affecting major interstates and morning commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, dense fog advisories stretch from Indianapolis east through Columbus and into Cleveland and Pittsburgh’s western suburbs. The advisory, first issued late Thursday, was expanded overnight as fog filled valleys and low-lying areas. Forecasters warn conditions could be slow to improve, particularly along I-70, I-71, and I-74, where traffic volume is heaviest during the morning rush.

Hazards include reduced sight distance and sudden drops in visibility, especially near rivers and rural stretches. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra space between vehicles. School buses and early freight traffic are expected to be impacted in multiple counties.

The fog should lift gradually by late morning as sunlight mixes drier air into the region. Until then, drivers are advised to use caution and plan for extra travel time. Additional advisories may be issued if fog redevelops overnight.
