Indianapolis, IN – An armed suspect wielding a machete was shot and killed by Indianapolis police Thursday after attacking officers during a tense confrontation in the 300 block of S. Warman Avenue.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 2 p.m. A caller stated they heard shots and reportedly saw a suspect fire at a neighbor’s house. Upon arrival, officers reportedly came under fire from the suspect, with the shots captured on patrol vehicle cameras.

After a brief foot chase, officers located the man near a home. Despite repeated commands to surrender, the suspect allegedly charged at officers with a raised machete and a firearm. Officers opened fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect continued reaching for his weapons while on the ground, prompting an additional shot. Once backup arrived, officers secured the scene and provided medical aid. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nearby, officers found a female victim with gunshot wounds. She was hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators believe the suspect shot the woman before engaging police.

IMPD and Marion County officials are conducting a full investigation. Residents with information can contact Detective Larry Craciunoiu at 317-327-3475.
