Indiana Native, Soldier, Discovered Dead in Missouri: Army Probes Cause

Ligonier, IN — A missing Indiana soldier was found dead in Missouri earlier this week. The Army has launched an investigation.

Authorities identified the soldier as Sergeant Sarah Roque, 23, of Ligonier. She was last seen at Fort Leonard Wood before being reported missing on Monday. Sergeant Roque served as a bridge crewmember and mine dog handler with the 5th Engineer Battalion.

Her cause of death remains unclear. The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation. They have not yet released further details.

Sergeant Roque was recognized for her military service with honors such as the Army Commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal. In a Facebook statement, Major General Christopher Beck described Roque as “a daughter, sister, friend, and Soldier” who served bravely.
