Auburn, IN – A motorcyclist was arrested Saturday after being clocked at 126 mph in a 60 mph construction zone on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County.
According to the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, the incident occurred near the Auburn exits along I-69. The motorcyclist was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving after being stopped in the active construction zone, where the posted speed limit remains 60 mph regardless of worker presence.
State police emphasized that speed limits in construction zones are established for multiple safety reasons, including limited or absent shoulders, lane shifts, and narrowed or reduced lanes. These limits are enforced continuously unless otherwise posted and are not conditional on active construction work or flashing signage.
“Please pay attention to the speed limit signs and slow down in construction zones,” ISP stated. “We don’t set these speed limits, but we do enforce them.”
The ISP also reminded the public that the construction zone configuration near the Auburn exits includes narrow shoulders and other hazards that justify the constant reduced speed limit, urging all drivers to exercise caution and obey posted limits for their safety and the safety of others.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
