Rensselaer, IN – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday evening in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 10 and U.S. 231 in Jasper County.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 6:49 p.m. to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles. Preliminary findings indicate that 54-year-old Christopher M. Partin of Gary, Ind., was traveling west on a 2002 Harley-Davidson at a high rate of speed when he allegedly failed to stop at the intersection. Witness statements said the motorcycle struck a 2013 Toyota Highlander that was stopped facing westbound at the intersection.

Authorities reported Partin was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the northwest portion of the intersection with severe injuries. Bystanders immediately began performing CPR before emergency crews arrived.

The sheriff’s office said the motorcycle then struck a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van, which was stopped at the intersection facing southbound, before coming to rest next to the van. Partin was transported by Wheatfield Township Ambulance Service to Franciscan Health Crown Point. His current medical condition remains unknown.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
