South Bend, IN – Severe thunderstorms on Monday night caused extensive damage across northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan. High winds and heavy rainfall resulted in numerous downed trees and power lines, leaving several communities to face significant cleanup efforts.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, wind gusts reached up to 71 mph in Fulton County, Indiana, while Berrien County, Michigan, reported up to 3.81 inches of rainfall. Emergency managers in Cass County, Indiana, confirmed multiple trees blocking roads near Logansport. Additionally, a semi-truck driver was injured when a tree fell onto the cab of their truck near Auburn in DeKalb County. Efforts to restore power and clear debris are ongoing.

The severe weather threat has now ended. According to the National Weather Service, a few isolated storms are possible along the US 24 corridor as a cold front moves through later today. However, a welcome shift towards dry and pleasant weather is expected midweek through the weekend. Temperatures will range from the mid-70s to the low-80s, with mostly sunny skies forecasted from Wednesday to Saturday. This period of calm weather will provide much-needed relief for residents affected by the recent storms, aiding in recovery and cleanup efforts.
