PORTER, IN – A man’s life was saved after he was discovered on Tremont Road with a staggering blood alcohol content (BAC) level that put him at risk of death. Thanks to the swift actions of the Porter Police, the man’s life was spared in the nick of time.
According to reports the incident unfolded late Wednesday night when a concerned off-duty Beverly Shores police officer narrowly avoided a tragic accident. He swerved to avoid hitting a man lying unconscious in the middle of the highway. The officer immediately alerted the Porter Police, who rushed to the scene to provide aid.
Upon arrival, they found the man in a state of alcohol-induced intoxication with a BAC level of 0.400%. According to the Cleveland Clinic, such a BAC range can lead to alcohol poisoning, causing loss of consciousness and presenting a potentially life-threatening situation.
A woman later arrived on the scene and identified the man as her boyfriend, who she had earlier removed him from her car due to his alleged intoxication and behavior.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Porter Police acted promptly and detained the man. They rushed him to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment. Medical staff confirmed his BAC level was above 0.40%, putting him at risk of respiratory arrest and potential coma.
He was arrested on charges of suspicion of Public Intoxication and left in the care of hospital staff. The man’s identity has not yet been released.
