Carthage, IN – A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of an Indiana man on Sunday morning.

According to Indiana State Police it happened near the intersection of County Road 700 N and County Road 700 W in the northern part of Rush County. At approximately 11:30 a.m., officers received reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle. Responding to the call, troopers found the victim, Steven William Hockmuth, 50, of Rushville, Indiana, unconscious and unresponsive in a drainage ditch to the east of County Road 700 W.

Initial investigations suggest that Hockmuth was riding northbound on County Road 700 W when he failed to navigate a curve, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. The vehicle veered off the road, leading to a fatal landing in the drainage ditch. Unfortunately, Hockmuth was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and authorities suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no additional reported injuries.
