Upon arrival, they located a 48-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

Following an investigation by the department’s Violent Crimes Unit, police identified the victim’s brother, 53-year-old Donald Simpson II, as the alleged suspect. He was arrested and later charged by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Simpson is facing charges of aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, according to authorities. He is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
