Rensselaer, IN – A Lake Village man was arrested earlier this month after authorities say he placed a GPS tracker on a woman’s vehicle.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a business in Rensselaer on February 10 after an employee reported finding the device on her front bumper. She first received a Bluetooth alert about the tracker on February 8.

Security footage from February 6 allegedly showed David J. Laud, 45, placing the device under the vehicle. The victim, who had distanced herself from Laud, sought a protection order after the discovery.

On February 11, deputies located Laud’s truck in a farm field. He admitted to a past relationship with the victim but claimed he was fixing a rattling headlight.

Laud was arrested and charged with stalking, a Level 5 felony, and unlawful surveillance, a Class A misdemeanor.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
