Rensselaer, IN – A 22-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after police say he was found trespassing twice at Rensselaer Primary School and admitted to consuming alcohol.

According to the Rensselaer Police Department, officers first responded at approximately 8:20 a.m. when Paul Spencer of Rensselaer was spotted walking across school property. Spencer allegedly told officers he was taking a shortcut to a job interview. Police said he was warned not to return and released from the scene.

Authorities reported that later in the morning, Spencer returned to the school grounds, where he was allegedly observed by the School Resource Officer and other staff members. Officers said Spencer told them he came back to reassure the school that he posed no threat.

Police said the School Resource Officer noticed signs of intoxication, and Spencer admitted to drinking alcohol. He was taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Spencer was booked on charges of trespassing and public intoxication, both misdemeanor offenses, according to police.

No students or staff were reported harmed during the incident, and classes at the school continued as scheduled. Authorities did not indicate whether additional security measures would be taken following the arrest.
