Louisville, Kentucky – Snow showers are expected to impact the Friday morning commute across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory effective before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. EST (3 a.m. CST) to 10 a.m. EST (9 a.m. CST) Friday. The affected area includes counties along and north of Interstate 64, spanning portions of southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky.

Forecasters say minor snow accumulations under one inch are expected, but even light snow could result in slippery roads and reduced traction, particularly during the busiest travel hours of the morning.

Cities included in the advisory include Louisville, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Clarksville, Corydon, Paoli, Jasper, Bedford, Madison, Frankfort, Lexington, Versailles, Paris, Winchester, Shelbyville, Georgetown, and Cynthiana, among others.

The greatest concern is road conditions, not snowfall totals. Snow showers may briefly reduce visibility, and untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could become slick quickly as temperatures remain near or below freezing.

Officials warn that hazardous travel conditions could develop rapidly, especially for commuters traveling early Friday morning. Even minor accumulation can lead to delays, slower speeds, and increased crash risk.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Motorists in Indiana can check conditions at 511in.org, while Kentucky drivers should monitor goky.ky.gov for the latest road updates.

Conditions are expected to improve later Friday morning as snow showers taper off, but morning travel disruptions are likely across the advisory area.
