Columbus, Ohio – Drivers across much of Ohio and neighboring states could face slick roads and slowed travel Friday as a widespread light snow event moves through the region, impacting both the morning and evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from early Friday morning through Friday evening. Snowfall totals are expected to reach up to two inches, with locally higher amounts possible in spots across central, southwest, and west central Ohio, along with portions of southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky.
In Ohio, cities including Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Springfield, Newark, Lancaster, Wilmington, Hamilton, Middletown, and Chillicothe are expected to see periods of snow through the day. Roads may quickly become slippery, especially during heavier bursts, with bridges and untreated surfaces icing up first.
Northern Kentucky communities such as Covington, Florence, Newport, Maysville, and Williamstown are also included, along with southeast Indiana locations like Richmond, Connersville, Lawrenceburg, and Batesville. Travel conditions could deteriorate rapidly during peak commute hours as snow accumulates.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on highways and secondary roads. State transportation agencies recommend checking road conditions before heading out, particularly during the Friday morning and evening drive.
Snow is expected to taper off Friday evening, but lingering slick spots may remain overnight as temperatures stay cold. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall amounts increase or conditions worsen.
