Paducah, KY – The Ohio Valley will roast under dangerous heat and humidity this week, as heat index values soar into the triple digits and daily thunderstorms disrupt travel and outdoor plans across southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, high temperatures will climb into the 90s by Tuesday, with peak heat index values hitting 100–103°F between Wednesday and Friday in cities like Carbondale, Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Poplar Bluff. Thunderstorm chances range from 30% to 55% each day through Thursday before dropping slightly Friday and Saturday.

Communities including Cape Girardeau, Marion, and Mount Vernon are expected to see repeated rounds of afternoon storms paired with oppressive humidity. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying or urban areas, especially where heavy downpours repeat. Roads like I-24 and US-60 may experience reduced visibility and ponding water during peak storms.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during the afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals are kept cool. Power outages and tree damage are possible with any stronger storms midweek.

The region’s heat risk peaks Thursday and Friday. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
