Lowell, IN – Indiana State Police K9 Cooper has been gifted a protective vest designed to prevent bullet and stab injuries. The lifesaving donation was made by the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Robert Emerson of Lafayette, IN, sponsored the vest, which is embroidered with the message, “Gifted by Emersons of Lafayette Indiana.”
According to the Indiana State Police, Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 5,794 vests to K9 units nationwide. This program helps equip K9 officers with custom-fitted body armor that meets National Institute of Justice standards. These vests are made in the U.S. and funded through private and corporate donations.
Vested Interest in K9s allows any law enforcement K9 older than 20 months to receive a vest if actively employed. The charity has contributed over $6.9 million to the cause, enhancing the safety of police K9s across the United States.
Community members can support the program through tax-deductible donations. The cost to sponsor one vest is $985, and each comes with a five-year warranty.
