Kokomo, IN – A 68-year-old inmate at the Howard County Jail died Friday after suffering a medical episode and being transported to a Kokomo hospital, according to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

The inmate, identified as Allen Ray Booher of Kokomo, was reported to be in distress at approximately 11:23 a.m. on October 3. Sheriff’s officials said correctional officers and medical staff were alerted that Booher was experiencing difficulty breathing.

According to authorities, Booher was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo Hospital for treatment. While waiting for care in the emergency department, he suffered another medical episode. Despite life-saving efforts by hospital staff, he was pronounced dead at 12:48 p.m.

Detectives and the Howard County Coroner’s Office were notified. Toxicology testing and lab results are pending, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, October 6, under the coroner’s direction.

Officials said Booher’s family was notified prior to the public release. The case remains under investigation by both the coroner and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.
