Williamsport, IN – A multi-agency pursuit reached speeds of up to 145 miles per hour Friday night before ending with an arrest in Vermilion County, Illinois, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the chase began around 8:31 p.m. on October 10 when the Danville, Illinois Police Department pursued a 2013 white Dodge Challenger heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 136 into Warren County.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies joined the pursuit near U.S. Highway 136 and County Road 600 West in southern Warren County. The suspect allegedly made a U-turn and sped westbound before turning north onto State Road 63. Stop sticks were deployed near State Road 63 and Baltimore Hill Road.
After striking the stop sticks, the vehicle continued westbound into Illinois, where it eventually came to rest in a bean field on County Road 1950 North in Vermilion County. Deputies said the driver fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody.
Authorities later determined the suspect had an active out-of-state warrant and was allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun. The driver was booked into the Vermilion County Jail.
In addition to Illinois charges, the suspect may face charges in Warren County, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle resulting in substantial risk of bodily injury — a Level 5 felony in Indiana.
Multiple agencies assisted in the chase, including police from Danville, Williamsport, Covington, Fountain County, Vermilion County, and the Indiana State Police.
