Indiana and Illinois – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect overnight into early Friday across portions of southwest Indiana and southern Illinois, with light snow expected to create slippery travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, an Alberta Clipper system moving through the region is producing light snow, with additional accumulations of up to 2 inches possible in parts of southwest Indiana. Lighter amounts, generally up to 1 inch, are expected farther southwest across southern Illinois.

In Indiana, Pike County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 a.m. EST Friday, with snowfall potentially affecting Petersburg and surrounding areas. Across southern Illinois and adjacent Indiana counties—including Wayne, Edwards, Wabash, Gibson, Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Spencer counties—the advisory continues until 6 a.m. CST Friday.

Forecasters say snowfall rates will remain light, but cold road temperatures could allow snow to accumulate on roads, bridges, and overpasses, increasing the risk of slick travel conditions. Slightly higher totals are possible in areas farther northeast within the advisory zone.

The timing of the snow may impact the Friday morning commute, particularly on untreated roads and rural routes. Visibility reductions are expected to be minor, but traction may be limited during the early morning hours.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially before sunrise. Motorists can check updated road conditions through the National Weather Service Paducah road conditions page at weather.gov/pah/roads.

Snow is expected to taper off shortly after daybreak, though isolated slick spots may linger into the early morning hours.
