Lake County, IN – One person was killed early Tuesday morning in a crash on I-80/94 involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.
According to the Indiana State Police, the accident occurred just after 1:00 a.m. near the 1.0 mile-marker westbound, approximately one mile east of the Illinois/Indiana state line. Troopers report a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on I-80/94 when it struck an attenuator at the exit ramp to Calumet Ave. The Jeep came to rest in the right lane, facing eastbound in the westbound lanes, and was then struck nearly head-on by a white 2021 Volvo tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Jeep, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The semi-truck driver was not injured. Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction was called to assist with the investigation. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
