Rensselaer, IN – All southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Jasper County are shut down this Wednesday morning following a semi-truck fire that damaged the roadway near mile marker 209.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation: Northwest, the incident occurred south of State Road 114 around 5:52 a.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the truck fully engulfed in flames, with the cab of the vehicle completely destroyed. INDOT officials say pavement damage is currently being assessed to determine how long the closure will remain in effect.
No injuries have been reported at this time, and authorities have not yet disclosed what led to the fire. The extent of the damage to the roadway surface is under review.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews work on cleanup and repair. Traffic is being diverted at this time, and there is no estimate yet for when the southbound lanes will reopen.
This closure may impact regional travel throughout Wednesday morning, especially for those commuting through northwest Indiana. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
