Lake County, Indiana – Drivers in Lake County should expect overnight delays on I-65 northbound as lane closures and a major traffic shift take effect between Ridge Road and 61st Avenue starting at 8 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the overnight work will run through 4 a.m. Friday, April 25, to transition northbound I-65 into a new configuration as part of ongoing bridge construction. Beginning Friday morning, northbound traffic will move to the left, with three lanes open—one of which will serve as a counterflow lane on the southbound side using newly constructed crossovers.

Southbound traffic will remain unchanged during this phase. However, the ramp from Ridge Road to southbound I-65 will stay closed through mid-August. INDOT says the closure is necessary to protect road crews and drivers as construction continues through mid-October.

Commuters near Hobart and New Chicago are urged to plan alternate routes, especially during overnight hours. Motorists traveling north on I-65 should reduce speeds and stay alert for signage indicating new lane patterns.

Further updates on lane shifts and closures are expected as INDOT progresses into later phases of the project. Motorists can check 511in.org for real-time conditions.
