Merrillville, IN – Drivers along I-65 in Northwest Indiana should prepare for overnight lane closures starting Monday evening as pavement patching and bridge work continue through the fall.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation: Northwest, closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 30, and continue through 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 1. The work aims to extend the current traffic configuration between 61st Avenue and I-94, coordinating pavement patching between 93rd Avenue and Central Avenue and bridge maintenance in the same area.

I-65 will maintain three lanes in each direction during construction. However, the left lane of northbound I-65 will shift into a counterflow lane on the southbound side. This temporary lane will connect with an existing counterflow setup beginning near 61st Avenue. Motorists using the counterflow lane will not have access to U.S. 30, 61st Avenue, or Ridge Road interchanges.

Officials stated that the lane changes are necessary to accommodate the evolving phases of the pavement and bridge repairs. Each phase will involve shifting traffic into new configurations to allow work to progress safely. Overnight closures will be key to implementing each change without disrupting daytime traffic.

Work is expected to continue through the fall, with INDOT advising drivers to remain alert for shifting traffic patterns and updated signage.
