Lake County, IN – Overnight lane closures will take place on I-65 southbound and the ramp from I-94 eastbound to I-65 southbound Monday night as crews wrap up bridge work between Ridge Road and I-94.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), closures will run from 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, to allow for permanent pavement markings. Once completed, traffic through the area will return to its normal configuration.

INDOT said several ramps are expected to reopen Tuesday, Aug. 19, including I-94 westbound to I-65 southbound, I-94 eastbound and I-65 southbound to Ridge Road, and Ridge Road to I-65 southbound. Officials caution that schedules remain weather dependent and subject to change.

The bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance work took place in three I-65 locations: over 35th Avenue, over the ramp from I-65 to westbound I-94, and over the Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern Railroad. While major construction is nearly complete, INDOT noted that additional traffic restrictions may occur to finish minor punch-list items.

Separate bridge deck overlay work on I-65 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad between Ridge Road and 61st Avenue will continue through mid-October. Pavement patching between 93rd Avenue and Central Avenue is also underway. Drivers should expect fluctuating traffic patterns in these areas until all work is completed.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and watch for changing lane configurations during the overnight work and ongoing repairs.
