East Chicago, IN – East Chicago Police Department reported that on Wednesday at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a call at the BP Oil Refinery after human remains were found during an excavation.
According to police reports a crew working on pipe system maintenance at the refinery located at 298 129th Street uncovered what seemed to be a human skull next to a refuse bin. The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Lake County Coroner’s Office have taken over the investigation.
The discovery has prompted a thorough investigation, and further details will be disclosed as they become available.
