Hebron, IN – Authorities are investigating a house explosion in unincorporated Hebron that left three men seriously injured Thursday evening.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the explosion occurred around 6:15 p.m. at a home in the 4200 block of West 181st Avenue. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
Two men, ages 49 and 39, suffered serious burns and were hospitalized. A third man, 64, was also hospitalized with burns and other injuries sustained in the blast. Preliminary reports indicate the men were cleaning out the home at the time of the explosion.
The fire from the blast engulfed the home and spread to nearby farm fields, prompting a response from multiple area fire departments. The Indiana State Fire Marshal and the Porter County Bomb Squad were called to the scene, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms was notified.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
