Lowell, IN – Firefighters rescued an unconscious resident from a burning home in Lowell, Indiana, after a neighbor reported seeing smoke on Thursday morning.
According to the Lowell Fire Department, the fire broke out around 10:21 a.m. in a home on the 900 block of Kankakee Ave. Arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof and eaves. Neighbors informed firefighters that a resident was likely inside, prompting an urgent search.
Firefighters discovered the individual unconscious in a first-floor bedroom adjacent to the fire. The victim was removed and treated on the scene before being transported by Tri-Creek EMS. Further searches revealed two dogs, one of which had died while the other was found alive and returned to the owner.
No firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lowell Fire Department, the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Lowell Police Department. Several local fire departments provided mutual aid during the incident.
Authorities urge residents to check smoke detectors and practice fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
