Indianapolis, Indiana – Hoosiers across central Indiana are facing dangerous heat through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with heat index values reaching up to 105°F and overnight lows remaining in the humid mid-70s.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the ongoing Heat Advisory spans dozens of counties including Marion, Monroe, Tippecanoe, and Vigo. High temperatures in the low to mid-90s combined with high humidity will create hazardous conditions for vulnerable populations, particularly those without reliable air conditioning or hydration.
Cities like Bloomington, Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Muncie are expected to experience intense daytime heat with little overnight cooling, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak sun hours, wear lightweight clothing, and drink plenty of water. Check-ins are especially recommended for the elderly, children, and individuals without access to cooling centers.
