Indianapolis, Indiana – Scorching heat and steamy conditions are gripping Central and Southern Indiana Friday as heat index values soar past 105°, prompting safety warnings and a continued Heat Advisory through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, air temperatures are reaching the low 90s, but intense humidity is pushing the “feels-like” temperature into dangerous territory across counties including Marion, Monroe, Morgan, and Johnson. Scattered to widespread thunderstorms—some potentially severe—are expected later Friday afternoon into the evening, especially across the northern half of Central Indiana.

Storms may bring heavy rainfall capable of localized flooding, with damaging winds also possible. Lightning poses a risk to anyone outdoors, particularly at parks, pools, and construction sites. The NWS urges residents to stay hydrated, remain indoors during peak heat, and have multiple ways to receive storm alerts.

This hot and stormy pattern is expected to persist into the weekend, with only slight cooling. Another round of storms is likely Saturday.

⚠️ Heat Advisory remains in effect until late Friday. Additional advisories may be issued for the weekend.
