Indianapolis, Indiana – Scorching heat and scattered storms will grip Indiana through Friday, with heat index values soaring past 100° in more than two dozen counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect as maximum apparent temperatures hit 104° in Martinsville and Bedford, 105° in Terre Haute, and 103° in Sullivan and Bloomington. Afternoon highs will hover between 90° and 94° statewide, with humidity making conditions feel significantly hotter.

Cities including Indianapolis (102°), Lafayette (101°), and Shelbyville (103°) will face elevated heat risks this afternoon. Residents are urged to avoid strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Thunderstorm chances increase to 50% today, with scattered storms possible each afternoon through Friday.

Localized power outages and minor flooding are possible during heavier downpours. Roads may become slick during brief storms, especially around rush hour. The weather pattern mirrors similar late-June heatwaves in 2022 and 2023, both of which led to several heat-related illnesses and transportation delays.

Conditions remain dangerously hot through the end of the week. Heat Advisories may be extended as new data arrives.
