Indianapolis, IN – The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Freeze Warning for much of central and southern Indiana, including the Indianapolis metro area, Muncie, Bloomington, Columbus, and Terre Haute. The warning will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Friday.

Forecasters say temperatures could fall as low as 29°F, marking the first significant hard freeze of the season. A Frost Advisory remains active through Thursday morning with early lows in the mid-30s, but much colder conditions are expected tonight as skies clear and winds calm.

According to the NWS, the freeze could end the growing season for many areas, potentially damaging crops, outdoor plants, and unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to cover or move sensitive vegetation indoors and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage.

Communities from Lafayette to Franklin and Kokomo to Bloomington will all experience the sharp overnight chill, with widespread frost and ice forming on vehicles and lawns by sunrise.

Warmer daytime highs will return over the weekend, but forecasters caution another cold front may bring additional frost potential early next week.
