Indianapolis, IN – The National Weather Service has issued an extended flood warning for several Indiana communities along the White River. Major flooding continues from Spencer downstream, with areas like Petersburg, Elliston, and Noblesville all affected. Heavy rainfall over the weekend, bringing up to 9 inches of rain, is the cause of these rising water levels.
According to the National Weather Service, the crest of the river is forecast to reach Petersburg by Friday morning, continuing to impact local infrastructure and residents. The river is expected to crest at 27.3 feet in Petersburg, which is nearing record flood levels not seen since 2005. Meanwhile, other regions along the river, including Anderson and Noblesville, are experiencing minor to moderate flooding as water levels rise.
Local authorities have urged residents to avoid driving through flooded areas, as many roadways are submerged. In addition, evacuations are underway in some rural areas, especially near the levees in the Petersburg region. Motorists are advised to stay cautious, particularly at night, as floodwaters are harder to recognize.
Flood warnings remain in effect for communities along the White River, with updates expected Tuesday afternoon. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels like the National Weather Service for further developments.
