Indianapolis, IN – Significant flooding continues along the Wabash River, impacting areas in Illinois and Indiana. Extensive lowland flooding has developed due to rainfall amounts of three to eight inches in the Wabash River basin. Locations like Mount Carmel and Vincennes are expected to see the worst of the rising waters, which are forecast to crest at Mount Carmel by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, flood warnings are in effect for the Wabash River at several points, including Mount Carmel, Riverton, and Lafayette. The Wabash River is anticipated to crest at Mount Carmel on Sunday morning at 30.4 feet. The river’s rising waters have already inundated agricultural areas and local roads, especially near East Mt. Carmel, Indiana.

Motorists are advised not to drive around barricades or attempt to cross flooded areas. Floodwaters have already made some roads impassable. With nightfall making it harder to recognize the dangers of flooding, extra caution is urged.

Additional updates are expected Tuesday afternoon, as the flood warning remains in effect for several areas until the weekend.
