Indiana Firefighters Contain Goodland Garage Blaze on Friday Evening

Goodland, IN – A garage at a rural residence outside Goodland was destroyed by fire Friday evening, prompting a coordinated response from multiple Indiana fire departments.

According to the Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 6:23 p.m. to the Mark and Brenda VanVleet property located at 11420 S 550E. When crews arrived, the detached garage was already fully engulfed in flames.

Mutual aid was immediately requested from the Kentland-Jefferson Township Fire Department and a tanker unit from the Goodland Volunteer Fire Department. Fire officials said about a dozen Brook-Iroquois Township firefighters, along with crews from Kentland and Goodland, worked to bring the blaze under control in under an hour.

The garage was declared a total loss, but no injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

No cause has been officially released, and investigators are expected to review the incident.

The Brook-Iroquois Township Fire Department shared an image of the aftermath, showing the charred remains of the garage. Firefighters credited the swift mutual response for the fire’s rapid containment.
