Fort Wayne, IN – Residents across Northern Indiana are urged to take precautions Sunday as the National Weather Service (NWS) issues an elevated fire danger alert due to unseasonably warm, dry, and breezy weather.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Northern Indiana, highs in the 80s, low humidity, and gusty winds could cause fires to ignite and spread quickly — especially in fields where harvest operations are underway. Officials advise residents to avoid outdoor burning and to comply with any local burn bans currently in effect.
The NWS warned that “outdoor burning is strongly discouraged,” emphasizing that even small sparks could lead to fast-moving grass or brush fires under these conditions. Those working outdoors are urged to have water sources ready and to fully extinguish any accidental fires immediately.
Relief from the warm, dry pattern is expected early in the week. Rain is forecast to move in late Monday through Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
