Gary, IN – A Gary man faces murder charges following the death of his 2-year-old son, found unresponsive at their home on November 4. Police and firefighters responded around 5:30 p.m. to a call for assistance at a residence in the 300 block of Arthur Street, where they discovered the toddler unconscious.
According to the Gary Police Department, the father informed officers he found the child unresponsive in the bathtub and attempted CPR. Despite efforts to revive him, the child showed no signs of life. Paramedics transported the boy to Methodist Northlake Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police observed visible swelling on the child’s body, prompting them to alert the Lake County Coroner, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit. The Lake County Coroner’s Office ruled the boy’s death a homicide on November 5. Authorities took the father, identified as Ricky Larkin, into custody for questioning.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Larkin with one count of murder. He remains in custody at the Lake County Jail as the investigation continues.
